What is Violet

Violet Satellite Violet is Cornell's newest satellite project with a goal of winning the University Nanosat-6 Flight Competition. Violet's mission is primarily as a technology demonstrator. We will demonstrate novel CMG steering laws along with an operationally responsive, high-agility space-imaging system.

September 23, 2012

Subsystems are working on the components and code they are responsible for. As parts of the satellite near completion, they are undergoing component-level testing in preparation for higher level tests later this semester.

December 15, 2011

Violet is currently being assembled in a clean room to prepare for FCR with the Air Force in January.

Janurary 17, 2011

Violet was award second place in the UNP-6 Competition! Due to a strong design and a relevant mission, the Air Force has expressed interest in seeing Violet launch, so the project will continue with their funding. Violet is going to be launched!

August 31, 2010

Violet Finished up the summer with a presentation at the Small Satellite Conference in Logan Utah. We made lots of good contacts and received important feedback on our program.
Recruiting is now underway!

April 16, 2010

Violet just hosted a successful day-long CDR with the Air Force. We received lots of good feedback and action items, with lots of critical work left. We are now heavily recruiting all engineering majors, including ECE, CS, AEP, and ME. See the Recruiting
